Refuse collection service disruption

In common with most local authorities across the Midlands, last week’s heavy snow and the persisting icy conditions disrupted our refuse collection service and we are still dealing with a backlog.

We’re working through the backlog as quickly as possible and have extra crews to help us do so.

Cllr Barry Longden, Cabinet member with responsibility for refuse collection said:

"The severe snow and ice created conditions that were not safe for our crews, trucks or the public. This meant that bins were not emptied on the scheduled day and we have to catch up.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused if you are still waiting for your bin to be emptied. Our crews are working hard to clear the backlog and will get to you as soon as possible. Please keep presenting your bin until it is emptied.

"Refuse collection across the whole of the Midlands has been badly affected; most councils are dealing with backlogs so as you might imagine, crews and vehicles are in very high demand everywhere.

"I’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding. I’d also like to thank our crews who are working so hard to minimise the disruption as far as possible."
