Recycle your plastics this Christmas

Published on Tuesday, 5th December 2017

Here's wishing you a very green Christmas!

The Borough Council has teamed up with Judkins Recycling Centre at Tuttle Hill to ensure that all household plastic packaging is recycled as much as possible over the festive period. Residents can recycle plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays within the brown lid recycling bin with other recycling materials and present them on the specified collection days. Then once collected the plastics will be separated and turned into new household packaging and other plastic items.

Judkins Household Recycling Centre will also be accepting the same plastic household packaging, which will then be sent to JayPlas in Loughborough for processing before they are manufactured into new plastic items.

Both Judkins and the brown lid bin service cannot accept types of hard plastic or any black plastic for reprocessing. For more information on what is accepted in the brown bin visit or for details of Judkins recycling centre, visit

Councillor Barry Longden, Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment said

“We want to ensure that it is easy to recycle plastics this festive season therefore by teaming up with Judkins we can ensure that households have a number of ways to recycle. As consumers we purchase more plastic packaging at Christmas than any other time of the year so making sure residents know how they can recycle is really important. Don’t forget to look out for the bin hangers being attached to black bins with collections dates and acceptable materials or go to the Council's website."
