Mayor opens new depot

Published on Monday, 4th December 2017

Today Cllr Bill Hancox, Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth opened the Council’s new depot facilities at Gresham Road, Nuneaton.

The facilities replace those at St Mary’s Road, which served the Council for nearly sixty years.

Cllr Hancox said:

“I am delighted to officially open this impressive site – it’s a vast improvement on the previous depot and meets the needs of a modern workforce. I’m sure that staff and residents will feel its benefit for years to come.”

Cllr Gwynne Pomfrett, portfolio holder with responsibility for Central Services added:

“These new premises offer a fit-for-purpose facility that will allow our staff to spend more time delivering a first class service to our residents.

“Whilst the previous depot served us well for half a century, it no longer met our needs and its location within a residential area wasn’t the most favourable or convenient for anyone.

“The move to Gresham Road has been much welcomed by residents and staff; as the transfer is also saving money it’s really good news for council tax payers too.”

The relocation of the depot saves the Council some £100,000 each year. It also releases capital funds for the Council upon the sale of the St Mary’s Road site.
