First stage approval for Borough Plan
Published on Thursday, 21st September 2017
Nuneaton and Bedworth’s Borough Plan has successfully passed the first stage of examination by the Planning Inspector.
The Inspector is satisfied that the Borough Council has fulfilled its duty to co-operate and that the calculation of housing need within the Plan is robust. This gives the official stamp of approval to the Council’s approach in developing the plan on these crucial issues.
Now that the green light has been given to progress to stage two of the examination, the Council’s Planning team has started to pull together some additional information requested by the Inspector.
Danny Aldington, portfolio holder for Planning and Development said:
“The Planning Inspector is satisfied that our Borough Plan has been properly prepared and has signed off stage one of the examination.
“I’m pleased that the examination is progressing smoothly and that our Plan has stood up to the rigorous challenges so far.”
Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council said:
“Our Borough Plan provides the blueprint for development in the Borough for decades to come and it’s so important that we get it right.
“It’s the job of the Planning Inspector to test the soundness and legality of the Plan and the independent, professional challenge the examination provides is vital. I’m pleased that the Inspector’s initial judgement is favourable and we’re able to move smoothly on to stage two.”
The Planning Inspector has published a letter setting out his initial judgement, this can be found on our website here. He will set the dates for stage two of the examination in due course.
