Bedworth Parkrun achieved special recognition this month by collecting the Northern Warwickshire CAVA (Community and Voluntary Action) Volunteer Award for Group Sports and Leisure.

Bedworth Parkrun is a free, weekly 5k community event which takes place in Miners’ Welfare Park, Bedworth.

More than 84 Volunteer Award nominations were received from Nuneaton, Bedworth and North Warwickshire.

The panel included members from Warwickshire County Council, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council.

Awards were offered across a range of themes with Bedworth Park Run receiving special recognition as they achieved the second highest score in the Sports and Leisure Group.

A spokesperson from the Bedworth Parkrun Committee said:

“We are incredibly proud of this award, and we could not put on our event each week without the support of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.”

Alison Thompson, Area Manager for CAVA, said:

“We were so impressed by the calibre of all applications that we had to give special recognition for the tireless contribution of groups like Bedworth Parkrun, organising sessions week in week out, come rain or shine.

“The panel agreed that the core team of volunteers really go over and above in their support of the health and wellbeing of local residents, and that Parkrun is so much more than a run in the park.”

Cllr Sue Markham, Portfolio Holder for Public Services, said:

"It's fantastic that the Bedworth Parkrun has been recognised in this way.

"It does a lot to encourage and support those who choose to take part.

"They are volunteers who do this whatever the weather and are a credit to us all."
