Guide to water safety

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is warning youngsters about the dangers of swimming in the borough’s open bodies of water.

The call comes after three adults and a teenager were rescued from an island by the River Tame, near Kingsbury, earlier this week.

The stranded quartet, who had been paddleboarding, were reached by the water rescue team from Rugby Fire Station and a fire crew from Coleshill before being checked over by West Midlands Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response.

Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment, said:

“The safety of our residents and visitors is of huge importance, and we want to ensure everyone can enjoy our parks and open spaces in the safest way possible.

“Please help us to share these important messages especially when the weather is warm and there is a temptation to swim in open waters.”
