A lease agreement for Bulkington Sports and Social Club has been renewed for 35 years.

Councillors voted to accept the recommendation for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and the club to enter a renewed lease for the self-management of the pavilion at a Cabinet meeting.

The recommendation stated 'that a renewed Lease Agreement with revised terms for the pavilion be approved for a period of 35 years'.

A new licence agreement for sports pitches be approved and that delegated authority be given to the Strategic Director, Customer and Corporate Services in consultation with the Head of Regeneration and Estates, the Assistant Director, Recreation and Culture and Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment to negotiate the terms of the lease agreement.

The current lease expired in November 2022 and there is a requirement for the Council to review the terms of the current lease and the format that is required within this for the future.

This is to maximise the opportunities to improve the facilities in Bulkington and improve access to sport and recreational activities for residents of the Borough.

Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment, said:

“We are delighted to be able to extend this lease for what is a substantial length of time.

“This club provides much-needed sports and entertainment facilities for the village and surrounding areas and sport really is a superb way for people to meet and share a healthy interest.’’

Cllr Sue Markham, Portfolio Holder for Public Services, said:

“It's great news that the Bulkington Sports Club had the lease renewed for the self-management of the pavilion.

“This should allow opportunities to improve the facilities at the club, which will benefit residents and members alike."

Simon Wright, Club Chairman, said:

“Myself and the hard-working committee at Bulkington Sports and Social club are delighted to enter into this 35 year arrangement with regards to the operational running of the pavilion and grass pitch.

“This gives us the security to continue to provide and grow the much-needed sports and social activities to the residents of Bulkington and surrounding areas.

“These offerings include cricket, bowls, darts, dominoes and crib, and boxing.

“We have also recently founded a golf section and next season are working towards having a home football team based at the rec.”
