Sky high success for civic appeal
Published on Wednesday, 19th July 2023
Former Nuneaton and Bedworth Mayor Cllr Jeff Clarke JP admits he is overwhelmed with the success of his civic appeal.
Cllr Clarke, who recently completed his year-long term as Mayor, is delighted that he and his team of fundraisers collected £41,110 for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA).
During his term of office, his daughter Sarah served as Mayoress.
Cllr Clarke said:
“It costs £1,700 every time the Air Ambulance is called out to an emergency and the funds raised will help to ensure it can continue its essential service.
“The Air Ambulance is desperately needed, and you will have seen it most days in the skies above Nuneaton and Bedworth carrying out life-saving work.
“The well-known generosity of borough residents has done so much for the Mayor's charity and the borough.
"The volunteers behind the Nuneaton fund-raising branch for the WNAA have been fantastic and have been out in all weathers manning stalls and organising events.
“It was a wonderful year for Sarah and me, we were both so proud to-have been able to represent the Borough both locally and around the region.
“Finally I would once more wish to thank all residents across the whole Borough for their overall support for such a worthy cause £41,110 is fantastic amount at the present time.’’
Among the many successful events which took place over the last year included a concert featuring an Abba tribute band at Stockingford Pavilion along with a grand draw and quiz nights at the same venue and at the Sunnyside Inn.
The phenomenal success of this year’s Nuneaton carnival also contributed £2,500 towards the final total and son-in-law Mark Etienne undertook an epic walk and run challenge to boost the appeal.
