During a full Council meeting on Wednesday, 17 May, the ruling Conservative Party officially reappointed their Cabinet members for 2023/4, with no changes to the current membership.

The leadership of the council remains the same, with Cllr Kris Wilson remaining as Leader of the Council and Cllr Clare Golby as Deputy Leader.

Cabinet members each take responsibility for specific services that the council provides to residents across Nuneaton and Bedworth. The portfolios are:

  • Cllr Kristofer Wilson (Whitestone) – Business and Regeneration
  • Cllr Clare Golby (Arbury) – Housing and Communities
  • Cllr Samuel Croft (Galley Common) – Finance and Corporate
  • Cllr Sue Markham (Poplar) – Public Services
  • Cllr Julian Gutteridge (Whitestone) – Health and Environment
  • Cllr Richard Smith (Bulkington) – Planning and Regulation

Also at the meeting on 17 May, the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Borough were installed for the forthcoming civic year. The Mayor carries out ceremonial duties as ‘First Citizen’ of the Borough and chairs Council meetings.

The appointments were made as follows:

  • Mayor – Cllr Martin Walsh (Slough)
  • Deputy Mayor – Cllr Brian Hammersley (Bede)

Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Cllr Wilson, said:

“The Conservative administration is committed to getting on with the job that we were elected to do back in 2021 and 2022 – to improve services for residents in Nuneaton and Bedworth, transform our towns, restore civic pride and run an efficient council.

“As we enter our third year in office, we always knew that turning around our Borough would be like turning an oil tanker around at sea. But we are making improvements for residents and delivering on the priorities of the people of Nuneaton and Bedworth.

“The Cabinet are all getting on with the job and I know that the best team is championing the interests of our area.”

Commenting on the new mayoralty, Cllr Wilson said:

“Cllr Martin Walsh will make an outstanding Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth. I am delighted that his chosen charity, Zoë’s Place, will be helping the most vulnerable in our society and will make a difference to those who need it most. I’m sure that residents will dig deep and support this fantastic charity.”
