Major boost of more than £2 million for homes in Nuneaton and Bedworth
Published on Friday, 14th April 2023
Almost 200 homes in Nuneaton and Bedworth will benefit from the money from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Wave 2.1 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF).
The £2,197,025 is over a two-year period and is scheduled to start in April 2023 and finish in March 2025 and will improve 191 Council homes in the borough.
The Council will match this funding over the two years. The funding was secured through a consortium bid, led by the Midlands Net Zero Hub, which brings £47m into the region to improve the energy efficiency of more than 4,000 social homes and led by Nottingham City Council.
The funding is targeted at homes in need of major improvements and is governed by an energy efficient criterion.
Types of improvements will include:
- Fitting External Wall Insulation
- Replacement of windows and doors where required
- Renewal of old boilers where required.
Cllr Clare Golby, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities and Deputy Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said:
“Yet again, we are doing a great job at securing outside funding that will benefit our residents.
“The main goal is helping people reduce their bills which, making sure their homes are properly insulated will all help to do. Keep people warm and saving money at the same time.’’
Insight Surveyors consultant bid writer and delivery partner said:
“We are delighted to have supported Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council with achieving this next stage of government funding for Wave 2.1 of the SHDF.
“The project will go a long way in decarbonise the Council’s housing stock, improving residents living conditions, reducing heating bills, and enhancing local communities. We look forward to assisting in delivering the works.”
