The father of two represented the Bedworth Heath ward from 2010 until 2018.
Tribute was paid to him at the council chamber during the annual budget setting meeting with a minute's silence held in his honour.
Cllr Kris Wilson, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said:
“I’m saddened to hear of the loss of former Councillor Aldington, and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
"It is important to remember that there is a family missing their husband and father at this time and that we wish the best through this very difficult time.”
