Stubbs Pool play area vandalism estimated to cost £7,000
Published on Wednesday, 28th September 2022

Within the course of two weeks vandals have caused a huge amount of damage to two areas in the Stubbs Pool play area that runs into thousands of pounds.
Vandalism to the fence surrounding the play area occurred around 17/18 September and last weekend the safety surfacing was ripped up and set alight, after only just being replaced following previous vandalism.
Play Equipment has been removed from the fire damaged areas as it was no longer safe to use.
The incident has been reported to the Police and we are requesting that anyone who has any information on how the damage occurred to come forward and report it to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 using the Crime Reference Numbers – 23/41738/22 and 23/41863/22 – Criminal Damage.
Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Portfolio holder for Health and Environment was extremely upset at the news, he said:
“Only months after we were forced to pay out thousands of pounds to repair criminal damage to Stockingford and Keresley Recreation Grounds, we once again find ourselves having to pay to repair damage to another play area.
“This money could be used elsewhere to fund maintenance or equipment for other play areas or parks, and it is absolutely devastating to have to use it for repairing damage.
“In the current climate the Council has to be more mindful than ever on how money is being spent, and acts like this unfortunately affect everyone, ultimately the taxpayer.
“We need help to stop these mindless criminals. If anyone has any information at all, please come forward using the crime number above and help us catch the culprits.”
