Introducing Borough Batonbearer Russ Watkin
Published on Thursday, 14th July 2022
As we look towards welcoming the Queen’s Baton Relay in Nuneaton and Bedworth on 21 July, we are proud to introduce Borough Batonbearer, Russ Watkin.
Batonbearers for the Queen’s Baton Relay were nominated in recognition of their contributions to their local community and being an inspiration to others.
Russ has done so much for health and sport within the Borough. He set up Bedworth and District Walking Football in 2016 for the over 50s where he arranges, manages, and runs three sessions per week. Plus, he manages teams in two leagues as well as organising national cup competitions!
Russ is a proud advocate for health and well-being and is always fundraising for charity and sports equipment. He also helps promote prostate cancer awareness.
The amount of time and work he puts in to benefit others is massive, all this despite a very personal family tragedy.
Russ was delighted at being chosen as a Batonbearer, he said:
"I am so proud to accept the honour of being a Queens Commonwealth Games Batonbearer, not only for myself but for all members of Bedworth & District Walking Football.
The opportunity to carry the Queen’s Baton through Bedworth will be an unforgettable moment. I'm looking forward to the event and the games"
Find out where the Baton will travel in Nuneaton and Bedworth and how you can get involved.
