Published on Thursday, 14th July 2022
Motorists are being reminded that despite the upcoming closure of the Abbey Street car park that there are still plenty of available parking spaces in the town.
The car park will close for good on Monday 25 July, so construction work can start on the new 145-bed Hampton by Hilton hotel, part of the Transforming Nuneaton project.
Work will start with an archaeological dig and ground sampling taking place at the site, with work on the hotel carried out by BAM Construction.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council currently has long stay car parks in Nuneaton at Harefield Road, Regent Street, Orchard Street, Riversley Park, Pool Bank Street, Victoria Street 2 and Meadow Street.
And the town’s short stay car parks can be found at Ropewalk, Justice Walk, Town Hall, Victoria Street 1 and Riverside.

Cllr Kristofer Wilson, Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said:
“Transforming Nuneaton is moving up a gear and that does mean there will be some necessary disruption for residents.
“But this is an exciting time for our town and we will get to see the future unfold in front of our eyes as the construction commences.
“We still want residents to visit and shop in our towns and there are plenty of other car parks to use.”
Wider plans for Abbey Street include a new cinema and multi-storey car park on the current car park land as well as North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College's plans for a new digital skills hub and bistro in part of the former Co-op building.
