You are cordially invited to join in celebrations of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, right here in Nuneaton and Bedworth!

There will be exciting events for all ages during the four-day bank holiday weekend as the Borough celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The festivities start on Thursday 2 June at 11.00am, when the 30th Signal Regiment will be marching though Nuneaton town centre. Exercising their Freedom of Entry, they will parade with their colours flying, bands playing, drums beating and bayonets fixed. The regiment will wear their Jubilee medals for the first time.

During the afternoon, people will hear “Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!” as the borough’s town crier, Paul Gough, proclaims the start of the celebrations on Nuneaton Town Hall steps at 2.00pm, All Saints Square, Bedworth at 3.00pm and Leicester Street, Bulkington at 3.30pm.

During the evening, Nuneaton and Bedworth will be joining the rest of the United Kingdom lighting beacons in recognition of the Queen’s long and dedicated service.

At 9.45pm simultaneously, beacons will be lit on the Town Hall steps, All Saints Square and on top of St James' Church, School Road, Bulkington (weather permitting).  Beforehand pipers will be playing 'Diu Regnarea' a special piece of music written especially for the occasion.

Friday 3 June will be the first of two Picnics in the Park – with Bedworth’s Miners’ Welfare Park hosting an event from 12noon.  Bring your picnics and join the party! The best of local talent will entertain you from the live stage. There will be inflatables fun for youngsters with Funtopia as well as Barker’s Fun Fair and craft stalls courtesy of Events by G&C.  Refreshments will also be available. The finale sees short display of fireworks to end the celebrations around 9.00pm.

On Saturday 4 June, we move over to Nuneaton for our second Picnic in the Park. We take over Riversley Park from 12noon. Again, we have live music and dance on our live stage, Pearson’s Funfair and craft stalls. At the bandstand we have art being created by Reel People, supported by a DJ and breakdancing. To end the day we will again have a short firework display at around 9.00pm.

Sunday 5 June is the ‘Come Together’ Communities Day in Riversley Park, 12noon to 6.00pm.  Groups from across our communities will come together to learn more about each other. Members of the Nepalese Community, the Sahil project and Together Community Support are all bringing a spectacle of dance, music, song, yoga, craft stalls,  games, cultural clothing and food for you to enjoy. There will be Eastern European classic cars on display as well as the Funtopia inflatable fun for the kids.

Together Community Support need prizes to raise money for their Ukraine Refugee Appeal, so if you would like to donate a suitable prize, please contact togetherorganizations@gmail.com

Cllr Kris Wilson, Leader of the Council, welcomed the programme of events and commented:

“This Platinum Jubilee weekend promises to be fantastic, with a wide range of events for residents aged 1 to 101! With activities all across our Borough – in our main parks and in the streets – we have an opportunity to showcase the best of our community and why Nuneaton and Bedworth is the place we want to call home. I’m proud of the great community we have, and I hope as many residents as possible get out and enjoy the festivities!”
