Council offers new help to small businesses

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council unveils new business support scheme to help small firms
- New partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB)
- Area’s independent businesses and self-employed can now claim free membership of Federation of Small Businesses and access business support
- Membership package includes free business banking, 24/7 legal advice, HR support, tax guidance, late payment and financial help, insurances, health and safety information and FSB Care
Small and micro businesses across Nuneaton and Bedworth can look forward to more support to help with their economic recovery after an incredibly challenging 18 months of trading conditions. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has teamed up with Federation of Small Businesses to help support the boroughs independent businesses to navigate the various economic, employment, legal and mental health challenges they face.
The borough council will support up to 50 businesses with 10 or fewer employees with free membership to FSB for 12 months.
Essential advice and guidance on areas such as legal and tax issues, employment legislation, cyber protection and insurance, free business banking and debt recovery services are all available through the free membership with FSB.
The membership offer adds to the package of support provided by the Council and Government in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council leader Cllr Kristofer Wilson said:
“Businesses are the life-blood of our economy and will help drive our recovery from the pandemic. This is yet further evidence of this Borough Council’s commitment under the new administration to reach every corner of our community with practical support that will make a real difference to people’s lives.
“Small businesses offer a great deal to the life and diversity of our communities, and deliver vital support to people who live, work and visit here. We will work with our colleagues at the Federation to make sure anyone looking for this kind of support gets the help they need.”

“FSB is delighted to be working with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council on this crucial initiative to get robust, on-the-ground and immediate business support to local small businesses and the self-employed across Nuneaton and Bedworth.
“This has been an incredibly tough period and small firms continue to face numerous challenges as pressures mount. Many will need support to not only survive these challenges but to go on to revive and then thrive.
“I am looking forward to helping the council to roll this out as want to do all we can to help practically support the independent firms and sole traders across Nuneaton and Bedworth. I’d encourage businesses to apply quickly to take advantage of this limited scheme.”
Once Nuneaton and Bedworth small firms take up the free membership, they can access the full package of business support which will help firms across the UK to plan their recovery, manage their HR issues and get to grips with their legal obligations.
Councils across the UK have been partnering with FSB to offer this discounted membership following a surge in demand for the FSB’s comprehensive support.
FSB has been supporting small businesses and the self-employed since 1974 and since the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis has lobbied hard for fair support for the UK’s vital small business community.
