Mr Hawkes, of Bedworth, was Borough Mayor during the Civic year of 2014/15 and during his term in office his Mayoress was Diana, his wife. Mr Hawkes passed away on the 28 July after bravely battling a long illness.

On the day of the funeral the Borough Flag will fly at half-mast on the Town Hall to honour Mr Hawkes.

His family said:

"Our family mourns the passing of an inspiring and well respected man, someone who has touched the hearts of so many and will be sadly missed."

Mourning wear is optional but the family welcomes attendees wearing outfits that particularly reflect Brian’s personality (he was famous for his ties and socks!)

The family has requested family flowers only however, donations in Brian’s memory will be gratefully received for The Dorethea Unit at George Eliot Hospital through J.E Hackett and Sons, 93 Leicester Road, Bedworth CV12 8AH. Cheques should be made payable to “The George Eliot Hospital Charity"

At this time of great sorrow, the family have no plans for a wake after the service and hope that their friends and colleagues will understand and respect the family’s decision.
