Tennis courts at Bedworth are to be refurbished for tennis and netball

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is pleased to announce the refurbishment of Bedworth tennis courts is due to commence next month.

Bedworth Sports Club secured Sport England Community Asset Funding, Lawn Tennis Association funding for a coded gate and financial contributions from Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council.

The funds secured are to redevelop the facility at Bedworth Miners’ Welfare Park for both netball and tennis courts

The area will be transformed into three refurbished tennis courts once work starts in September incorporating three netball courts, one of which will meet Netball England standard for playing competitive league matches.

Following a procurement exercise, work is due to get underway in September with successful contractors Fosse on site up to December 2021, following delays to the project for a number of reasons last year.

As well as the courts being resurfaced the work will include all new fencing around the courts, higher ball stop fencing on the side nearest the cricket ground, and a new coded gate for pay as you go users. There will also be floodlights as part of the project making sure even during those dark winter months sport can be played throughout the day and evening.

Ivor Richards, Club Chairman of Bedworth Sports Club stated: “It’s taken some time to get to this point, but with floodlighting and a whole newly refurbished facility this is going to enhance the sporting opportunities for club members and the general public.”

Cllr Kyle Evans, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Public Services commented: “Residents are going to benefit from this facility for many years to come and it will offer more opportunities for enjoying sport in a safe and secure environment.’’

Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Health and Environment said: “The collaboration with all the different funders and local partners will result in a facility Bedworth can be proud of.”

Cllr Margaret Bell, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health at Warwickshire County Council added: “We are delighted to have played a part in securing the refurbishment of this sports facility for which the work will begin shortly. The end result will be some high-quality netball and tennis courts which will enhance the area and benefit the people of Bedworth.”
