Green bin collections: Service suspension extended
Published on Friday, 23rd July 2021
The green bin collection service will continue to be suspended this coming week (26/07/21-01/08/21) due to staff shortages from sickness and isolation requirements.
We are asking those customers affected to please utilise the household recycling centres where possible.
Unfortunately, a number of sickness cases and isolation requirements in the refuse and cleansing operational team at NBBC has led to the need to suspend the green bin collection service this week and additional cases means this will continue into next week. We are currently experiencing serious staffing issues within the waste management team, with approximately 40% of our operational staff unavailable for work.
Green bin collections will not take place from Monday, 26 July to Sunday, 1 August. We are hopeful that the service will continue from Monday, 2 August, allowing normal scheduled collections to take place from then - we will, however, confirm this when possible.
In response to new guidance published today by Government regarding particular workforce isolation exemptions, we are actively working to establish our inclusion to this scheme.
As we will not be able to carry out those collections missed at a later time, whilst continuing to work on scheduled services; those affected by this weeks’ and next weeks’ suspension will need to wait until their next scheduled collection for their bin to be emptied - or take their waste to a household recycling centre.
Use of household recycling centre for garden and food waste is free for householders in Nuneaton and Bedworth. Booking a slot at either of the two sites available to use is easy and can be done online:
We will not be able to take additional side waste and so ask that any green waste that can’t fit in to your bin is kept or taken to the household recycling centre. We are asking that those who were due a green bin collection this week, please take their bins back in to properties until their next scheduled collection to avoid obstruction to path users.
The Portfolio holders for Public Services and finance are working together with finance officers to consider a discount scheme for residents following the suspension.
We would like to offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience the suspension may cause and thank those affected for their understanding and patience at this time.
