Borough Council leader Cllr Kristofer Wilson confirms the local authority supports relaxation of the government's Covid restrictions

Borough Council leader Cllr Kristofer Wilson has welcomed the gradual end of the lockdown measures in place across the country from Monday (19 July).

And he vowed Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council would do all it could to help people stay safe as steps to relax the restrictions continue.

The government confirmed on Monday 12 July that all measures to require people by law to comply with measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19 would end next week.

But Cllr Wilson remains keen to emphasise that everyone still needs to exercise caution.

He said: “While the number of cases of Covid-19 is high and rising, everybody needs to continue to act carefully and remain cautious. We will continue to help the government manage the virus and provide guidance over the coming months.

“Please follow guidance from the shops, businesses, transport providers, events and anywhere else you might visit in the coming days and weeks. We all need to remember that we must all continue to do all we can to stop the spread of the virus so it can’t mutate and create even more of a threat to our way of life.”

The Council has confirmed that Town Hall services that require a face to face meeting will continue to be available by appointment only as the gradual changes come into effect.

Cllr Wilson added: “We can continue to relax the restrictions on our community, but this is not yet a return to what we used to call ‘normal’.”

  • To request a face to face appointment at Nuneaton Town Hall, residents are invited to call the Borough Council customer response centre on 024 7637 7676.
