Published on Thursday, 13th May 2021
We are excited to announce that the museum will be welcoming back visitors from Tuesday 18th May 2021.
Three new temporary exhibitions will be available to explore, including artwork by the Association of Leicester Artists on display in the Yellow Gallery. The White Gallery houses, Take 5 makers show with beautiful items available to purchase, and the Landing Gallery exhibition gives you the opportunity to see local emerging artist Ben Hannaby's colourful work.
The permanent galleries have also had a makeover with new objects in both the Local History Gallery and the George Eliot Writing Room. Children and families can take part in a new ‘Tootles Trail’. Follow the trail of Tootles the Museum Dog as he takes you on a trail of discovery around the galleries and displays. Ask at reception for your copy. Come and have a look around the shop and enjoy a cup of tea in the Museum tearoom!
In accordance with government guidance and advice from the National Museums Directors Conference there are currently several changes to your visit. Please note that visitors to museums and galleries are required to wear face coverings. The museum is committed to keeping people safe during their visit. Site numbers will be controlled, so on occasions you may be asked to wait a short time. Upon entry you will find there is a new one-way system around the museum which is clearly marked. Team members will be on hand to provide advice and answer any questions you may have. Hand sanitiser is provided at the entrance/exit for you and the front of house team will clean high touch areas in the museum hourly. There will also be another team-member permanently outside the toilets, to direct our visitors and carry out frequent cleaning.
For the time being access to tearoom facilities will be by the main museum door only this will also help to manage capacity within the building.
We ask that you do not visit the museum if you have had any symptoms of coronavirus within the last 7 days. This also applies if a member of your household has had symptoms within the last 14 days or if you have had contact during that time with anybody who has subsequently developed symptoms of coronavirus. In those cases you should stay at home and self-isolate as per government guidelines.
