Kimberley looks to a bright town centre future

Business owner optimistic as Nuneaton town centre’s Abbey Street Development steps up.

Nuneaton business Kimberley’s Occasions are looking forward to a fresh start as the town centre’s Abbey Street Development gathers pace.

Despite the dual challenges of the pandemic and the short term disruption caused by exciting investment in town centre shopping areas, business owner Kimberley Hyde remains optimistic about the future.

Her shop has had to move from New Century Way to make space for regeneration of that part of the town, with a hotel, apartments and new retail units on the way, as well as public open space. The development has meant all the shops on New Century Way have to make way for the planned development that will provide a hotel, apartments and new retail units together with a new public space.

Now, with her business co-owners mum Joyce and her brother Mark, Kimberley is looking forward to a new opportunity to become even better established in a busy shopping centre, in new, bigger premises in Market Place. She said:

“We had been trading almost a year before the pandemic came, offering event management for weddings and other events, and have broadened our offer into gifts as well as continuing to offer a florist service and personalised celebration balloons.

“We do a bit of everything around events, really. We also support local independent suppliers so people can come and have a look at what they are buying and know that a lot of what we stock is made locally.

“It has been a very disruptive time but at the start of the pandemic we thought we would have to fold, so we have done well to be able to keep things going. We are now able to make a fresh start and hopefully the town centre will continue to pick up after so many shops not being able to trade for so long. We had a really good response at Easter, and we are so grateful to our customers for their support.”

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has supported Kimberley to find new premises and Director for Regeneration, Economy and Assets, Dawn Dawson explained:

“The Abbey Street Development is bringing major investment to Nuneaton and will help us bring new life to what is on offer in the town centre.

"It is part of the Transforming Nuneaton proposals which will do exactly that – transform what the town has to offer. We are delighted that Kimberley’s Occasions will continue to be a valuable part of our town centre and wish them the best of good fortune in their new premises, along with all our other town centre shops and market traders.”
