If you’re a private tenant/homeowner and meet the criteria, the grant will help keep your home toasty and ensure lower fuel bills!
To be eligible for the funding the homes must:
- Be occupied by low income households (£30,000 or less)
- Have solid walls
- Have an energy performance certificate of E,F or G
With the scheme being recently extended, you now have until 20 June 2021 to apply!
The scheme is being funded by a Government Green Homes Grant totalling £1.41million, split across private sector properties and council homes.
External wall insulation has many advantages, it helps to improve your home’s thermal efficiency and reduce heating bills. With with an average saving of £450 - £500 on fuel costs per year, it will also go a long way to helping those who face fuel poverty. Ensuring reduced heat loss in winter and reduced overheating in summer, the weather-proof render can also improve the overall look of your home too!
Providing the installation is Nuneaton based, family company, Rockwarm. Approved contractors to some of the top name energy providers in the UK, Rockwarm have been installing energy saving measures throughout the district for the last 38 years. Rockwarm Managing Director, Charlotte Knott said:
“External Wall Insulation (EWI) is one of the best ways to improve the thermal fabric of pre-war properties that have a solid wall construction. EWI is like putting a tea-cosy over your home, as it makes the home cosier and reduces the energy bills for residents. It also gives the home a more modern face lift, can help with damp and condensation issues, and future proofs issues like water getting in through mortar joints etc. All works also come with a 25-year warranty.”
A local homeowner in Nuneaton, was very happy with the service they received, they said:
“The process from start to finish was very smooth. The application process was easy and the girls in the office at Rockwarm were great at keeping me informed. I have noticed a difference already; the house retains more heat than before, and I find I don’t have to have my heating thermostat up as high.”
After NBBC declared a Climate Change Emergency in December 2019, ensuring as many homes as possible across the Borough take part in this scheme is just one of the great steps the Borough Council is taking to help to tackle this issue. Using a local company to provide the installation also helps reduce the carbon footprint.
Cllr Christopher Watkins, portfolio holder for Housing & Communities said:
“Rockwarm are a trusted local company and we are glad to be working with them to deliver this service and it’s great to see that residents are happy with it too. The new online form will make it much quicker and easier for people to apply for the scheme. I encourage people to do so as soon as they can so they can start to reap the benefits!”
The Council is working with its contractors to identify eligible households however, nationally, the Government is providing help directly to all qualifying residents through a voucher scheme which can be found here.
