Borough Council succeeds in landing additional funding to support local leisure services to recover from the pandemic
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has been successful in securing funding to safeguard the future of local leisure facilities in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council secured the financial support through an application to Sport England’s National Leisure Recovery Fund (NLRF) to help support leisure services to recover from the national lockdown.
Following the announcement of the NLRF in December 2020, the Council sought to apply for support funding to help deliver leisure opportunities for residents during 2021.
Working in partnership with leisure operator Everyone Active, an application was submitted in early January and the Council received notification last week that it has been successful in securing £249,000 from the Fund.
Cllr Ian Lloyd Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Arts and Leisure, said: “This is fantastic news which will help us to maintain our delivery of leisure provision in the Borough in coming months, through what has been an extremely difficult time for users and our leisure partner.
“We have kept the situation under constant review, and we look forward to re-opening our leisure facilities in line with Government restrictions as soon as we can. We will continue to work together and re-open facilities where possible.
“This funding will help us support our excellent leisure provision to recover. We look forward to the re-opening of activities across the Borough during the coming year, and this is a very welcome award.”
