Council leader welcomes government grant announcement
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council leader Cllr Julie Jackson has welcomed Whitehall confirmation of £23.2 million funding for transformation work to Nuneaton town centre.
As part of his Budget announcement today (3 March 2021), Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak confirmed Towns Fund funding has government approval.
Said Cllr Jackson: “As the lead local authority on this bid to the Towns Fund, we have received excellent news this afternoon that Nuneaton’s bid for £23.2m from the Government’s Towns Fund Programme has been successful.
“This is wonderful news for the borough and particularly for Nuneaton town centre, and is a testament to the excellent work that so many people across the Borough Council and the members of the Town Deal Board put in to develop and submit our bid during 2020. This news is well deserved. Thank you everyone for all that you have done.
“This is a very significant positive result, and is just a part of our ambitious plans for Nuneaton town centre. We are working hard to bring forward proposals for Bedworth town centre as well. We believe projects like these are going to have a significant effect on the borough as a whole. Now our hard work begins to put these exciting proposals into practice!”
