NBBC support #SpeakUpForAllergies campaign

"It’s so important for people with food allergies to check the ingredients of their food."
The Borough Council are supporting the Food Standards Agency (FSA) #SpeakUpForAllergies campaign in social media, which encourages 18–21 year-olds with food allergies and their friends to speak to takeaways before they order food.
FSA data shows that young people are at a higher risk of food allergy incidents, as feeling confident about their allergy can lead to complacency.
It’s important for anyone with a food allergy speak to a restaurant every time when ordering a takeaway or delivery because the recipe, ingredients, chef or kitchen staff may have changed.
Cllr John Beaumont, Portfolio holder for Health said:
“It’s so important for people with food allergies to check the ingredients of their food, it’s easy to get complacent – especially if you’ve ordered the dish from a restaurant in the past, but people need to be aware that recipes and ingredients can change. Please take heed of the advice in the FSA campaign and always check with the restaurant/takeaway before ordering.”
