Civic Hall in Bedworth used as a Covid-19 vaccination centre
The Civic Hall in Bedworth is used to hosting household names from the world of entertainment, but is now playing a major role in the battle against Covid-19.
The High Street venue is now being used as a vaccination centre, with thousands of people expected over the next few months for the all-important injection.
Before this, the building was used as a Covid-19 test centre, and prior to that used to carry out thousands of flu vaccinations.
These uses contrast strongly with The Civic’s usual function, hosting entertainment events with household names such as Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Jasper Carrott and Chris Ramsey.
The Civic is also used for many community-based events, such as the town’s Armistice Day commemorations, the annual pantomime, dance shows and the Bedworth Darts Masters.
Cllr Ian Lloyd, Portfolio Holder for Arts and Leisure, said:
“Since The Civic Hall was officially opened in 1974 it has been firmly at the heart of our local community. We are proud to say that although we are currently unable to stage any shows or events we are able to use this wonderful venue as a vaccination centre, where patients from the town and surrounding areas can have their vital injections at a site where their health and safety is paramount.
“We are firmly looking forward to the future where the stage will be lit up once again and shows will be taking place, but until then we are pleased to be using The Civic as a vaccination centre.’’
Shows are being lined up for that later part of this year and early 2022, including the traditional pantomime, The Bedworth Darts Masters, The Drifters, Jim Davidson, That’ll be the Day and Showaddywaddy.
