Council confirms free parking for Covid-19 vaccinations

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has confirmed it will be allocating a number of limited time parking spaces in two of its car parks to support the rapid turnover of people attending vaccination
NHS vaccinations have begun this week at Abbeygate shopping centre in Nuneaton and The Civic Hall in Bedworth. The free parking arrangements will be introduced in allocated bays to help people get to their appointments safely and on time. These bays will be available in Harefield Road, Nuneaton and Spitalfields car park, Bedworth.
Patients are encouraged to make themselves known to car parking staff who will be in attendance at both car parks, and where possible provide proof of their appointment. Staff will then direct patients to the rapid turnover bays where they can park free of charge for up to an hour. Car parking is free for all users after 6.00pm at both car parks.
A temporary drop off and turn round area has been created within the pedestrian area of Harefield Road to support patients with mobility issues, and staff will be on hand to provide help.
Councillor John Beaumont, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council portfolio holder for Planning, Development and Health, said:
“Now vaccinations are available to local people, we wanted to do what we can to make it as safe, easy and accessible as possible to help people get to their appointment.
“People will need to bring with them some evidence of their appointment and we will be glad to make sure they get an hour’s free parking. Staff will be on hand at the two car parks to provide advice and directions.”
Transport support to vaccination appointments should be prioritised in the following order and referral to Volunteer Transport should be the final resort to retain capacity in the system.
Firstly, ask family/carers/bubble, secondly, identify a volunteer and finally, if those options are not available Voluntary Transport can be contacted. Residents in Nuneaton and Bedworth can contact Volunteer Friends (Medicar) on 024 7664 0088 – Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
