Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council are working with Warwickshire Welfare Rights Advice Service (WWRAS) and schools across the Borough to increase the take up of free school meals.

Some families do not claim all they are entitled to, and there is often more to be claimed. If you have a child, or children, attending a school in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area we can check if you can claim free school meals and that you are claiming your full benefit entitlement. If you are working and on a low income you may also be entitled to in-work benefits too.

This FREE and confidential service will check to see if you are missing out and WWRAS will even complete the application forms for you!

It is important that children have a healthy balanced meal each day. We all know that children having a full tummy are happier, are more alert and achieve better results. They perform better in sports, improve their social skills, and a school meal encourages healthy eating habits and helps to reduce obesity.

There are other advantages to a child being registered for a Free School Meal. It means more money in a family’s pocket and means they don’t have to worry about finding the money to buy the school lunch. For every successful Free School Meal registered, the child’s school receives more money too from the ‘pupil premium’, regardless of whether the meal is eaten or not!  This extra funding will help the school to provide more opportunities for all children attending the school.

Please note: If you have a child in Reception Year 1 or 2 they will be entitled to a free school meal irrespective of household income. It is important that you still register for this free school meal in order that the school can receive the pupil premium of £1,345*(primary age) from central government, which can go towards funding valuable support like extra tuition, learning assistants or after school clubs.

This project has an excellent track record, raising over £175,220 in pupil premiums for local schools and over £1,013,671 in additional benefits for local families across the Borough.

We hope that as many parents and carers as possible will take advantage of the free help on offer.  If you are interested, please either:
