The Borough’s Christmas Lights switch on will be a virtual event this year

Published on Tuesday, 24th November 2020

Coronavirus restrictions which rule out public gatherings mean the popular town centre seasonal celebrations in Bedworth, Bulkington and Nuneaton will take place online.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council bosses have ensured the light displays will be in place and working as usual to brighten the main shopping areas this year.

Switch ons will take place with a short, virtual event on Friday 27 November at 5.30pm, on the Borough council Facebook page here:

Explained Borough Council Leader, Cllr Julie Jackson:

"It's such a shame we can't hold the traditional switch on. But the lights will go ahead and we hope they will bring a bit of festive cheer to town centre shopping this year."

The Mayor, Cllr June Tandy will carry out the switch on duties, and added:

"It is such a shame people can't get together to enjoy the town as we usually would.

"But I will be delighted to be able to officially switch on the lights this week, and I have been told there might be a very special guest along to give me a hand!

"Here's hoping the lights help give everyone a bit of a lift."
