Pingles Stadium hold athletics summer event in collaboration with Birchfield Harriers

Published on Thursday, 20th August 2020

The Pingles Stadium will be hosting a Club Challenge event this weekend that is being ran by the UK’s Premier Athletics Club, Birchfield Harriers!

On Sunday 23 August, the sports facility will be delivering the only “team” athletics event being held in the UK this summer.

The team event is a simple points-based competition: 1st (8pts) 2nd (6pts) 3rd (4pts) and 4th (2pts) – the only gimmick is that each team will have two Joker cards to double the points in an event for one man/one woman in their teams.

There will also be two races for Para-athletes: 400m for wheelchair classes – including GB internationals Ben Rowlings and World Para Silver medallist Kare Adenegan.

Our partner Nuneaton Harriers Athletics Club who manage the Pingles Stadium, will ensure this event will be a great opportunity for well recognised and talented athletes to get back into action!

Cllr Ian Lloyd, Portfolio Holder for Arts and Leisure said:

“The Pingles Stadium is again playing host to the delivery of competitive athletics event this weekend, putting our Borough on the athletics map, with some highly talented athletes attending from European 400m Bronze medallist Meghan Beesley, World relay medallist Danny Talbot competing.

“The recent work and upgrade of the track surface has further promoted our local facility, along with the hard work by the Harriers Club in meeting strict COVID-19 Risk Assessment to meet UK and England Athletics requirements to stage such events. I wish all the competitors the best of luck in obtaining fast times on our newly laid track.”

Support from England Athletics, AP Sports Consulting and JP Health will allow the event to be streamed via Vinco.
