Published on Friday, 10th July 2020

The Nuneaton Pingles Athletics Stadium is one of only six facilities selected across the Country to deliver athletics events for the governing body.

On Sunday 12 July and Sunday 19 July the Nuneaton track, managed by the Nuneaton Harriers Athletics Club will be staging two competitive athletics events.

The Club have been selected to deliver formal competitions comprising of 100m, 400m, long jump, hammer and shot put events. The first event will be for adults only and the second event will be for under 15’s and under 17’s age groups.

The Harriers have been delivering one hour sessions at the track over the past month, via online bookings and have all the necessary assessments in place to support social distancing and meet Government guidelines.

Sport England, UK Athletics and England Athletics have been supporting in the planning and delivery of the two events alongside the Harriers and are keen to put in best practices at the Club to share with other tracks across the country.

The two events will be recorded and put on social media highlights. This is in order to support social distancing and promote to the wider community, who may have otherwise been spectating at the events.

Cllr Ian Lloyd, Portfolio Holder for Arts and Leisure said:

“The continued partnership working with the Harriers Club goes from strength to strength, only a few months ago we worked together in resurfacing the track with the Club and installed timing equipment at the site, with support from Sport England funding.

“The Nuneaton and Bedworth facility which we are very proud of as a Borough, is putting us on the map yet again for its sporting prowess and as a model of best practice in its event delivery at these trying times. It is great to see our recovery for outdoor sports taking place and once again providing the opportunity for competitive events.

“The hard work by the Harriers team to put in place all the necessary assessments and safe working is a credit to the team. I wish them well with the two events and look forward to watching the events via the video footage".

Nick Wilson - Nuneaton Harriers Athletics Club, Stadium Manager said:

“We are delighted to be hosting both athletics events which will give the public a great opportunity to use the newly resurfaced Pingles track in a competition setting. Our partnership with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council continues to support athletics development at the track, and we look forward to working on many more future projects together.”
