Rainbows Shining Brightly At The Civic Hall in Bedworth
Published on Friday, 24th April 2020

The stage at The Civic Hall in Bedworth may well be dark, but the venue’s windows are looking bright thanks to a colourful competition.
Box Office team member Joy Burgess, herself a mum, is concerned that youngsters living in Nuneaton and Bedworth would be getting bored without any schools to attend during the COVID-19 lockdown.
So she came up with the idea of a colouring competition aimed at not just giving children something to do, but also to acknowledge the tremendous work which is being carried out by the NHS.
Entrants have to submit a rainbow inspired picture, with entries displayed in the front windows of the High Street building.
One picture entry will be chosen at random to win a pair of tickets for the opening night of The Civic’s annual pantomime - Jack and the Beanstalk and entries are displayed in the building’s windows.
Joy said: “We wanted people to know who grateful we all are to the brilliant NHS staff and all of the key workers who are doing a wonderful job in these troubled times
“We have been overwhelmed by the amount of entries we have received as well as the high level of interest the contest has generated so far.
“And we would like to remind adults that they can enter as well, there is no age limit to this competition – we look forward to seeing everyone’s designs.’’
Cllr Ian Lloyd, Portfolio Holder for Arts and Leisure at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said: “These may well be uncertain times, but it’s fantastic to see these colourful paintings in the Civic’s windows.’’
“I would like to thank everyone who has taken part so far and what a great idea of Joy’s it has proved to be!
“Let’s hope the entries keep rolling in, and we look forward to the day when the Civic Hall in Bedworth is open and shows are taking place again.’’
The Civic Hall has been closed to the public since the introduction of Government regulations aimed at combating COVID-19 with many shows postponed.
Staff though are attempting to reschedule as many shows as possible and details of re-arranged shows can be found at www.civichallinbedworth.co.uk
Anyone wanting to take part in our competition can send their entries to joy.burgess@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk Please include your name and a contact number.
