Online Book Group Launched - Read Silas Marner by local writer George Eliot!
Published on Friday, 3rd April 2020
During these difficult times whilst people are doing their bit by staying home, Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery are finding ways to share their services online.
The latest project is an online Book Club reading Silas Marner by George Eliot. The project is part of the museum’s Exploring Eliot Project which is a partnership with Coventry Culture and Warwickshire Libraries.
We are asking people to join us in our first online book club, a delightful distraction and a great way for us to stay connected with you at this time.
Exploring community and isolation, wealth and family we thought Silas Marner by Nuneaton’s best known author would be the perfect place to start!
All you have to do is;
1) Get a copy of Silas Marner – there are free online ebooks and audio readings available.
2) Start reading!
3) Join us every 2 weeks on Facebook www.facebook.com/nuneatonmuseum/or @ExploringEliot on Twitter twitter.com/ExploringEliot to chat about what we have read so far. Eliot experts will be offering their views and asking questions and we will add in some gems from the museum’s collection.
Our first book club will meet online 3-5pm on Thursday 16th April to chat about Chapters 1 & 2.
The chapters aren’t too long so hopefully 2 chapters every 2 weeks won’t be too much!
For anyone who has never read George Eliot, now is your chance and for those firm fans you can revisit an old favourite. We hope you will join us.
Cllr Ian Lloyd, Portfolio Holder for Arts & Leisure said:
“If you are looking for a new challenge whilst you are at home, why not try reading Silas Marner, by the borough’s most famous daughter George Eliot. Get involved and follow the book club on facebook and Instagram."
