NBBC to carry out emergency repairs only on customer homes
Published on Monday, 23rd March 2020
Following Government advice in regards to COVID-19, as from Monday 23 March 2020, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will only carry out emergency repairs to our tenants’ homes.
Emergency repairs are those classed as necessary to avoid danger to occupants or, similar serious effects on people, or serious damage to the property. Examples of the types of emergency repairs we will respond to are; a total loss of electrical power, toilet broken / not working (where this is the only one in the property) and major leaks in your water system.
This may mean that our response is only to make the property safe. Please be aware that this will also mean any improvement works that have been planned, such as kitchen and bathroom replacements will be delayed. It is envisaged that this system will be in place for at least the next 12 weeks.
Cllr Chris Watkins, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities said:
"The current advice from government is to limit as much social contact as possible, to try and relieve the level of Covid19 infections. Given this and the reductions in levels of our workforce, it is important that we do not undertake any non-urgent works that require social contact. We continue to review the situation on a daily basis order to help keep more people as safe as possible and ensure we are following Government guidelines."
