The Modern Slavery Act 2015 is a piece of legislation designed to combat modern slavery and human trafficking. Section 54 of Act requires certain organisations to develop a Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement each year.
The Statement must set out what steps the organisation has taken during the previous financial year to mitigate modern slavery in any part of its business or supply chain.
It is a requirement for any organisation which supply goods or services and have a total turnover of not less than £36m to create and publish a statement.
The government provided updated guidance to confirm public bodies which have a budget of more than £36m are captured within the remit of the requirements.
Cabinet recently approved the 2022/2023 statement.
