Exercise referral schemes is a scheme to help increase physical activity among people who are inactive or sedentary and are otherwise healthy or who have an existing health condition or other risk factors for disease
The Community Class on Referral scheme has been specifically designed for individuals not wanting to train alone or go to a gym facility. This scheme is a great way to meet new people.
This service provides a 12 week programme of a physical activity/healthy lifestyle support to young people aged 8+ and adults aged 16+.
The Exercise Referral Service has a charge which is at a much discounted rate for classes but the nutrition, fitness assessments and programme designs are all included in this service for free.
To be eligible for the scheme you must have one of the following conditions and be referred by a health/social care professional:
- mental health condition e.g. mild to moderate depression,
- anxiety, low mood
- dementia - early to mid stages
- respiratory condition
- musculo-skeletal condition
- neurological condition
- risk of cardiovascular disease
- diabetes type 1 and 2
- obesity or overweight
- osteo/rheumatoid arthritis/osteoporosis
- an inactive/ sedentary lifestyle

The good news is there is no limit to how long you can keep attending our community classes.
Regular fitness assessments
It involves measuring height, weight, blood pressure, body composition (body fat/lean mass percentage), lung function, Carbon Monoxide levels, Basal Metabolic Rate and anaerobic grip strength. The results are discussed with you in detail, giving you an overview of your health and highlight any areas where additional help and support should be needed.
