What is a Closure Power?

The Closure Power is a fast and flexible power that can be used to protect victims and communities by quickly closing premises that are causing nuisance or disorder. The power comes in two stages:

  1. The Closure Notice
  2. The Closure Order

these are intrinsically linked.

The Closure Notice

The Closure Notice can be used by the Council or Police out of court. Following the issue of a Closure Notice, an application must be made to the Magistrates' Court for a Closure Order, unless the Closure Notice is cancelled.

The Closure Order

A Closure Order will be in force for up to 3 months and can be extended for a further 3 months on application to the court.
