Backdated benefit claims

Benefit is normally only payable from the Monday after the claim is received with the Benefits team if you:

• can show good cause for not having made your claim earlier, benefit can be backdated prior to the date that your written request is received
• or your partner, are under 60, the maximum period for which a claim for housing and council tax support can be considered for backdating is one month 
• or your partner, are of pensionable age, the maximum period for which a claim for housing and council tax support can be considered for backdating is three months
