Council tax support

Local council tax support scheme

The main parts of our Local Council Tax Support Scheme are:

  • All working age claimants will pay something - this will be 20% of their council tax charge
  • Protection for vulnerable claimants - we will continue to retain existing premiums for those with children, a disability or those who are carers. We will also protect those in receipt of a War Disablement of War Widows pension
  • Encourage work incentives - if the claimant or partner move into work we will continue to pay their CTS for a period of four weeks
  • All members of the household should contribute - this relates to anyone over the age of 18 living as part of the household (also known as non-dependants). The rates of non-dependant deductions have increased in line with figures released by Central Government
  • Late applications - these will be backdated for a period of three months if good cause is shown for not applying sooner
  • Rates of allowances and premiums have increased in line with figures released by Government.  These are the rates we use to work out your entitlement to LCTS
