Injunction to protect land

The aim of the injunction is to prevent:

  • repeated unauthorised encampments within the Borough and reduce any negative impact these have on our communities
  • 53 named persons from setting up any unauthorised encampment anywhere within Nuneaton and Bedworth
  • persons unknown from setting up unauthorised encampments on other sites across the Borough

What sites will be covered?

There are a total of 141 sites across Nuneaton and Bedworth which form part of the injunction.  These sites are a mixture of Borough Council, County Council and privately owned land.

The full list of sites covered is detailed in Schedule 3 of the Sealed Interim Order. Sites consist principally of:

  • Public open spaces
  • Playing fields
  • Highways
  • Schools

How will it be enforced?

The Council will have additional powers under the injunction.

Any person breaching the injunction may be held in contempt of court with the order containing a power of arrest to be enforced by the Police. In addition the Council can take further proceedings which may lead to prison, fine or seizure of assets.

What action do I need to take?

Persons named within the Sealed Interim Order may make representations to Court if they wish to do so.

Other members of the public do not need to take any action and can continue to use public open spaces, car parks and other listed sites as they currently do.
