What can I put in my black bin?

Your black bin should only be used for items which are non-recyclable in your other household collections.

Non-recyclable items include:

  • Food waste (if you aren't signed up to the green bin scheme)
  • Plant pots
  • Toothpaste tubes/pumps
  • Pens
  • CD/DVD cases
  • Screw top lids
  • Melamine picnicware (i.e. plastic picnic cutlery)
  • Materials contaminated by food which cannot be washed
  • Polythene (very thin plastic i.e. plastic film)
  • Polystyrene
  • Crisp packets
  • Plastic carrier bags
  • Cling film
  • Disposable nappies (consider using real nappies)
  • Rigid (very hard) plastics
  • Wrapping paper

Help us to give you the best possible service

  • Present your bin by 7.00am
  • Retrieve bin within 24 hours of collection
  • Avoid non-collection by putting correct items in each bin
  • Contain all items within the bin
  • Bins cannot be collected if too heavy
  • Request an additional black bin (please read requirements beforehand)
