A museum object handling session for visitors of all ages exploring African and Southeast Asian masks and their significance in performance, ceremony and ritual.
Why do we wear masks? Just to conceal the face? Or do specific masks have the power to tell a story through their disguise? Get hands on with masks of all shapes, sizes, colours and forms from South Africa to Southeast Asia. Discover the materials they are made from, the individuals who would have worn them and their significance during perfromance, ceremony and ritual.
