We Are Officially GOOD!
Nuneaton & Bedworth is officially a GOOD authority, which is the outcome of the recent Audit Commission inspection of the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA).
Inspectors were on site in November where they interviewed staff, Councillors, partners and looked through lots of documentary evidence. The Audit commission has recognised the improvements made by rating the Council at a ‘good’ authority, a significant improvement from the previous ‘weak’ rating.
Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council says:
“We are obviously delighted at this result. Everyone here at the Council is committed to providing first class services to our communities. The result reflects all the hard work, skills and commitment of every employee, member and all our partners since our previous assessment in October 2004. I am particularly pleased that the inspectors recognised that the council is achieving good outcomes for local people”
Christine Kerr, Chief Executive says:
“I am very proud to be part of this organisation. Working with people who are truly committed to improving the lives of those who live in the Borough proves that we really are United to Achieve, and I hope people will join with me in being Proud to Succeed. This is not the end of our improvements, we will not be complacent, and we will continue to improve our services for all our customers.”
Just some of the feedback from the report:
“The Council has made considerable progress……its overall performance has now improved to 'good'. It is clear about its ambitions for the area and this has resulted in the successful delivery of priorities. It is highly respected as a partner …... provides effective leadership and purposeful partnership working.”
Other highlights include:
- A clear long term vision to narrow the gap between the most disadvantaged in the borough and the most advantaged in the rest of Warwickshire
- Above average performance in priority areas with high public satisfaction rates
- Good partnership working, led strongly by the Council
- Good use of its own assets, such as land, to aid regeneration
- Improving customer focus and access to services based on wide consultation
