School Gets Arty for Recycle Now Week
School children who attend Park Lane Primary, Nuneaton have been busying themselves in the art room this week, all in the name of recycling. This explosion of creativity is to celebrate Recycle Now week, a national awareness week to encourage and remind people to recycle. The week is supported by the Recycle Now campaign, which is responsible for the recycle television adverts
The arty task, which was set by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, was to create a piece of artwork from recyclable and environmentally friendly material. Sarah Lloyd, Waste Education officer and Erika Scotto, Arts Development Officer will be viewing the art this week, and the art will be displayed in one of the council buildings at a later date.
Sarah Lloyd, Waste Education Officer says:
‘What a great way to teach children about recycling! By making it fun, the pupils can learn so much about how to look after the environment. Park Lane Primary School is excellent at teaching their pupils about how to look after our planet. They have won Eco-Schools awards and are one of the best in the borough for making sure their school has a low impact on the environment.’
The sculpture has been designed and made up by the Eco-club at the school, and is made entirely of recyclable material. The Eco-club is responsible for running the Eco-School programme at the school and the pupils are all keen to do their bit for the environment.
Councillor Geoff Ashford, Portfolio Holder for Health and the Environment says:
‘This is a good chance for our school children to learn in a practical way about recycling. It is really important to teach our children about recycling and environmentally friendly practices, and making recycling fun is an important way of doing this. I hope that the parents of the pupils are learning as much about the environment from their children!’
