Painted Gates at Whittleford Park

Probation Carryout Painting at the Park
Whittleford Park has been undergoing a transformation with the help and assistance from the Community Payback Scheme over the last few weeks.  People who are working on the scheme have been helping to paint entrance gates and features in and around the Park.

Working in Partnership, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Friends of Whittleford Park have been working in this Park, a site of importance for nature conservation for a number of years.  Joining in with the Partnership, Warwickshire Probation’s Community Payback Scheme has worked really hard and made a dramatic difference to the area.  With the new gates in situ, the Park can now be enjoyed at its best.

Councillor Neil Phillips, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Recreation said today,

“This project has been possible by a close partnership between the Friends of Whittleford Park and the local population in designing the new feature gateways.  Working with a Community Artist and Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods the gates were designed through workshops.  The park is now looking great, with it being open for the whole community.”

Frank Gravenor, Community Payback Manager for Warwickshire Probation Service, said,

"We are always looking to support Local Government in regenerating areas. Research shows that the fear of crime is increased where public areas are left unkempt and therefore we are more than happy to help brighten up this public facility.  We are also making savings from the public purse by using the free labour of offenders subject to an Unpaid Work Court Order".
