Nuneaton and Bedworth Landlords Forum
Local Landlords Are invited to attend an open Forum with the Local Authority.
The Forum is to be held at the Town Hall, Nuneaton between 7.00- 9.00pm on Thursday 26 July.
The aim of the of the Forum is to enhance the working relationship between the Council, Private Sector Landlords and Managing Agents to ensure a supply of high quality private rented accommodation throughout the Borough
The meeting is to be chaired by Mr Tony Parish, a local landlord and the major agenda item for the meeting is the recent change in legislation regarding how landlords handle tenancy deposits.
Cllr. Bob Copland, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
“There is a critical shortage of housing and Nuneaton and Bedworth reflects the national picture. We have 4,000 applicants on the Council’s housing waiting list but we are only able to create about 400 new tenancies per year.
We are exploring every avenue to create housing opportunities and I am extremely pleased to see the re-establishment of a local Landlords Forum. This will enable the Council to discuss with landlords the development and promotion of a high quality private sector housing option for residents of the borough.
Our recent private sector housing survey confirmed that there are 4900 privately rented dwellings in the borough. This represents 9% of the total housing stock so the quality and access to the private rented sector has a major impact upon the quality of life in the area.
Accreditation of property, getting empty homes back into use, finding accommodation for vulnerable groups are some of the issues that we need to develop with our local landlords.
I hope that as many landlords as possible are able to attend the forthcoming meeting. We have sent invitations to a number of landlords but any landlord who has not received an invitation is welcome to attend.”
