New Picture Gallery Now Open

Museum and Art Gallery, Riversley Park, Nuneaton
To celebrate Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery’s 90th birthday, a new Picture Gallery is launched on Saturday to coincide with family learning.

Everyone is welcome to join in the free celebrations which will take place.  There will be birthday cake and free goodie bags for the first 100 children who visit.

The former red gallery has been refurbished, a new hanging surface created, new lighting and carpeting as well as new interpretation panels. As well as featuring new pictures, the gallery includes new sound pieces to accompany three of the pictures.  There is a new Peep Hole board, a chance to try on a Shako hat and a new puppet theatre.  The Gallery also features items from the museum’s ethnography collections.

Councillor Neil Phillips, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Recreation said:

“This gallery will be a great experience for local people, showing quality paintings in an inspiring environment.  Schools are already booking to bring their pupils to this new resource”

There will be chance during the day to celebrate the Big Draw Campaign by dropping into a cartoon workshop being led by local artist Jim Kirkwood.

As part of the Scenes Revisited Festival, learn more about the science of the Victorians from Don and Kathleen of Heuristics.  They will have a camera obscura, and a silk weaving loom.  Unravel a silk cocoon, and get hands on with Victorian Toys and Games.

This event has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
