New Managing Director for Council
Alan Franks was last night appointed as Managing Director Designate of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council. He will take up the role with immediate effect in a move that will make significant savings for the local authority.
The Council has followed a lengthy and considered process in selecting the new Managing Director which has involved a restructure of the corporate management team. Full Council last night unanimously ratified the decision following recommendations approved by Cabinet at a meeting beforehand.
Following the meeting of Full Council, an offer of appointment was made to Alan Franks to the newly created post of Managing Director. He will take up the post full time in April.
The Council has previously operated with a corporate management structure involving a Chief Executive, two Directors and six Assistant Directors. It has been without a Chief Executive since Christine Kerr retired from the authority in December 2010.
However, the new streamlined structure will consist of a Managing Director and six Assistant Directors and will make a net saving to the Council of almost £200,000.
Council Leader, Cllr Dennis Harvey, said:
“The appointment of a Managing Director means we are well prepared to face the many challenges that lie ahead. Alan has already proved through his long service with the Council that he is committed to Nuneaton and Bedworth and he is determined to lead us in the delivery of a first class level of service to our residents.
“The decision by Council to appoint our first Managing Director was taken in the best interests of the authority and, more importantly, the residents we serve. The restructure of the management team has not only allowed us to streamline the way we do things but also enabled us to make a significant financial saving.”
