International Tourism hits the George Eliot: Scenes Revisited Coach Tour!

As part of this year’s George Eliot: Scenes Revisited festival, a Scenes Revisited coach tour welcomed a full party of 45 visitors on Thursday 2^nd August including three international visitors.  Having booked via the website and by telephone, our three international visitors, Gisela Weiss and friend Betina from Germany and Sarah Jones from Texas, USA, expressed how impressed they were to find George Eliot Country tours and how they had arranged their visit to England around this date, specifically to come on the tour.

 

This is just one of 4 tours arranged as part of many events taking place this summer to celebrate the 150^th anniversary of George Eliot’s first work of fiction, ‘Scenes of Clerical Life’.  Two other tours will be taking place on Sunday 9^th September and Thursday 20^th September, both from 1.30pm to 6pm.  These tours are encouraging both local residents and visitors to explore the local historical attractions that inspired George Eliot to write ‘Scenes of Clerical Life’. Both are free of charge as part of the Scenes Revisited Festival project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Many more events are free too!

 

People will be able to find out about the stories in the book, and the people and places that fascinated our famous Victorian author, allowing her to create such memorable characters as the brutally violent Lawyer Dempster and the well-intentioned but blundering Reverend Amos Barton. 

 

One of the participants from Leamington Spa wrote on their evaluation form, “I really feel the organisation was brilliant and the sense of commitment on the part of the organisers truly passionate.  It’s been an extremely stimulating experience – enjoyed every moment.”
